My Glass Slipper status

My Glass Slipper in Old Town Alexandria is a favorite for buying shoes for your big day. However, it appears to be closed. Here is what its website says about the status of the store.

The My Glass Slipper store located in Old Town Alexandria is relocating and is currently closed. The store is expected to re-open in our new location in the Fall. Check back here for updates on the grand re-opening.

It's good to be a guest for once!

My husband's friend's got married this past weekend in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area. It's a nice change of pace to be a guest at a wedding instead of working. I try very hard to turn off my wedding planner brain and I'll have you know that I did behave myself :)

A Catholic ceremony was held at St. Rose of Lima. It's a quaint little church. I had been there before for another friend's wedding. The reception was then held at the Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown. What a fun place! Something different and the rates seem pretty reasonable. While we had cocktails in the art gallery, there was a band playing outside as there usually are on a Saturday night opened to the public. So the bride and groom joined in for a little dancing. Dinner and dancing was held inside the dance theatre. The food was provided by The Knife and Fork Caterers who did an excellent job (I noticed on a trip to the bathroom that the catering staff only had a narrow hallway to work in.) The dinner buffet incorporated the groom's Italian heritage with the inclusion of pasta along side a fajita bar. DJ Lance from Washington Talent Agency provided the sounds and kept the guests grooving!

Haute Papier - Custom Invitation to reflect your style!

I met Sarah Meyer of Haute Papier at a WeddingWire event and boy am I excited we were introduced. Soon after we met, I had the perfect client for Sarah. My client is having a garden themed wedding with a range of colors from the orange family. Sarah had great ideas on how to deliver the maximum impact within our budget and the results were amazing. Your invitations set the tone to your event and this invitation conveyed our theme of garden, romantic and whimsical! We used a lily of the valley motif along with an orange color ink and papaya colored envelopes for the wedding and rehearsal dinner invitations.

By the way, Sarah and her fiance Hockley are getting married this weekend. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the Class of 2007!

I had the pleasure of putting together a graduation party for a great group of young women at the Arlington Center for Dance a few weeks ago. A great time was had by all as the graduates move on toward brilliant futures. Two of the nine graduates will be pursuing professional ballet careers.

This party is an example of how you can pull together a fun event on a limited budget. There were approximately 60 guests with a mix of adults and teenagers (health conscious dancers). Held in one of the studios, an otherwise unassuming room was punched up with royal blue tablecloths, bright yellow napkins, and a mix of simple yellow and white floral centerpieces in different vases - arrangements you can put together with supermarket or farmers market purchases. Along with some yellow and blue balloons and some minimal "graduation" decor, it was looking like a party! (Tip: the only decor items that I purchased that said "Class of 2007" were napkins so that you can reuse items from year to year)



The food: a combination of purchases from your favorite local stores! Wegmans provided a crudite, cheese, fruit, and grilled veggies (great for the summer) platters. Whole Foods provided the Mediterranean pasta with shrimp, the chicken Caesar salad, a quesadilla trio of mushroom, black beans, and chicken, and the delicious peaches and cream cake. I made a quick bruschetta (Costco has a pretty good premade mix) to get everyone started. All the food was relatively healthy and reasonably priced.
